Golden Hawaiian rolls layered with melted cheddar and mozzarella, brushed with garlic butter for party-ready bites.

# What You Need:

→ Bread & Cheese

01 - 1 package (12-count) Hawaiian sweet rolls
02 - 8 oz sharp cheddar cheese, thinly sliced
03 - 4 oz whole milk mozzarella cheese, thinly sliced

→ Butter Spread

04 - 4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
05 - 1/2 tsp garlic powder
06 - 1 tbsp fresh flat-leaf parsley, finely chopped

# Directions:

01 - Preheat oven to 350°F or set a large skillet or griddle over medium heat.
02 - Using a serrated knife, slice the entire connected slab of Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally without separating individual rolls. Place the bottom half on a baking sheet or flat work surface.
03 - Distribute cheddar and mozzarella cheese slices evenly across the bottom half of the rolls, covering the full surface. Place the top half of the rolls back in position.
04 - In a small bowl, combine softened butter with garlic powder and chopped parsley. Brush or spread the mixture evenly over the tops of the rolls.
05 - For oven method: bake uncovered for 12 to 15 minutes until cheese is fully melted and tops are golden brown. For skillet method: cut into individual rolls and grill each side for 2 to 3 minutes until golden with melted centers.
06 - Remove from heat and allow to rest briefly. Separate into individual mini sandwiches and serve warm.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • They vanish from the plate within minutes, which is the most honest compliment any appetizer can receive.
  • The sweet Hawaiian roll combined with savory melted cheese creates a flavor contrast that surprises people every single time.
02 -
  • If you forget to slice the rolls while they are still connected, assembling them evenly becomes a frustrating guessing game.
  • The butter needs to be truly softened, not melted, or it will soak through and make the bottoms soggy instead of crispy.
03 -
  • Place the baking sheet on the center rack and check at the 12 minute mark because every oven has its own personality.
  • Lightly scoring the connected rolls with your knife before baking makes clean separation effortless once they come out.
