Mini Grilled Cheese Hearts (Print Page)

Bite-sized grilled cheese hearts with melted cheddar, perfect for snacks and fun gatherings.

# What You Need:

→ Bread

01 - 6 slices soft white or whole wheat sandwich bread

→ Cheese

02 - 6 slices cheddar, American, or melting cheese of choice

→ Butter

03 - 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

# Directions:

01 - Using a small heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out two hearts from each bread slice to make 12 hearts total. Repeat with cheese slices to create 12 cheese hearts.
02 - Place one cheese heart between two bread hearts to form each mini sandwich.
03 - Spread a thin layer of softened butter on the outside of each assembled sandwich.
04 - Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Place sandwiches buttered side down and cook for 2–3 minutes until golden brown. Flip and cook the other side for another 2–3 minutes until cheese is melted and bread is crisp.
05 - Serve warm while cheese is still melted.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • Everything is more fun when it is miniature and heart shaped, plus the crunch to cheese ratio is absolute perfection
  • Takes twenty minutes from start to finish and uses ingredients you already have in your kitchen
02 -
  • Work quickly once you start cutting because the bread can dry out and get tough if it sits too long before cooking
  • Do not overcrowd your pan or the steam will make the sandwiches soggy instead of crispy and golden
03 -
  • Use your leftover bread and cheese scraps to make regular grilled cheese for yourself while the hearts cook
  • Let the sandwiches rest for one minute after cooking so the cheese sets slightly and does not ooze out when you bite in
